While celebrating a wonderful 2016 with our team in Sydney, we accepted our 500th student into the Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing.
This is an important milestone and goal we have had in our sights since the first Diploma in Melbourne in May 2013.
Something we talk about in the Diploma is the power of positive ripples. Longitudinal research led by Nicholas Christakis shows that if you are able to improve your wellbeing it has a positive flow-on effect for those around you. The relationship between people’s happiness can extend up to three degrees of separation, for example, to the friends of one’s friends’ friends. The happiness of a close contact increases the chance of an individual being happy by up to 15%. For a second degree contact it rises by 10%; and for a third degree contact by 6%. These positive connections actively spread positive emotions and healthy behaviours throughout networks and communities.
With each of our 500 Diploma students out in the world spreading their positive ripples we are proud to reflect on how many people will be influenced by the fantastic work they go on to do.
In celebration of our 500th student, we wanted to bring you, in their own words, how some recent students have found the Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing and how they feel it will inspire them and the people around them on the journey ahead:
Cate: An amazing six days of learning that cemented for me how positive psychology can touch all areas of your life.
Sarah: The beginning of a real journey with positive ripple affects.
Donna: The thing I’m taking away from the six days (of the diploma) is that it doesn’t have to be big to make a difference
Jackie: Sharing in a safe environment with diverse and lovely people. Sue is an inspiration.
Nickie: I loved the program and actually getting to experiencing everything we learnt as we learnt it.
Sam: I love helping people and I’ve been so overwhelmed with all the tools I’ve learned that will make that make that easier… I know it makes me feel like a better person.
Jeanette: Over the six days I got to talk to everyone in the group. Everyone was an inspiration.
Brenda: It was so wonderful to be accepted and to lean about growth and fixed mindset. I will take so much of what I have learnt into my school and I feel strengthened for my journey ahead.
Charlotte: I feel that through the Diploma I’ve learnt and understand how I work and how the people around me work.
Cat: I didn’t know much (about positive psychology) going into the course, and I’ve come out having learnt so much. I love the science!
Illona: I’ve taken a lot out of this course, especially the power of perceptions and how they shape the way we think.
Raelene: I am so surprised by how transformative it (the course) has been and how it will make my home a beautiful place. Sue made it so easy, it was a privilege.
